Abstract

Without any pretensions to establishing degrees of originality, the book Debocino escuarra, mirailla eta oracinoteguia published by Joanes Haranburu in 1635 could be an appropriate vantage-point from which to consider the issue of intertextuality. We have been excessively slow to elucidate the links and derivations between works of our classical literature. Without rejecting the possibility of other sources the primary effort in the present article has been that of clarifying what Haranburu owes to the work of Esteban Materre and highlighting the most important features of his debt.
