Abstract

This paper is part of a broader research project. Precisely, it is based on a section of the doctoral thesis entitled: Discursive Strategies in the Basque Prose of Koldo Mitxelena: A Study of Parenthetical Statements. The article revises the syntactic position of interpolative statements in the cinema and literature reviews of the Basque linguist Koldo Mitxelena. The study considers both syntactic and communicative aspects. The main objectives of this paper comprise the following: 1) to draw conclusions from the systematic recurrence in the position of parenthetical statements 2) to highlight the fact that interpolative statements are not positioned arbitrarily, but rather they encompass a communicational purpose.
