Abstract

In this work, we analyze the interpretations that arise when combining the suffix -KA with different grammatical categories, such as quantifiers (dozenaka), verbs (saltoka), and adpositions (etxeraka), and we offer a unified account for them. We propose that the purpose of this morpheme is to add a [+ plural] feature to its complement, and not to derive adverbs from other categories, as various Basque grammars have suggested. Thus, it is not responsible for providing a particular category but rather for creating elements with cumulative reference by means of the addition of the [+ plural] feature.
