In 1621 the Aragonese doctor Ardevines included the Basque words for the months in his work Fabrica universal. So this became the third work in which they are printed. To the transcription of some of the months Ardevines added a fairly wellfounded etymology. It is not known what Ardevines’ source was, nor whether it was mere oral communication or a piece of work no longer extant today. Nevertheless, it is fairly clear that the author of this virtually unknown list must have been someone who mastered Basque very well.
