Abstract

Antonio Arrue is a somewhat unfamiliar figure in the sphere of Basque studies and research. He has been inappropriately regarded as a Francoist; yet during the difficult decades of the 1950s and 1960s he did in fact reflect the contribution of Carlism to the Euskaltzaindia. He made a key contribution to the historic Arantzazu Assembly, assisted in the development of extempore Basque verse making, and in general helped to overcome the administrative obstacles that were hampering the work of the Euskaltzaindia.
