Abstract

The syntax assumes, from its basic point of view, that in verb phrases like bota pilota, the verb bota, being the main component of the complement, chooses the members of the nominal subcategory of quality [+ concrete]. From its original conception, phraseology claims that in collocations of the bertsoa bota type, the verb bota is a synsymmatic verb, that is, it stops expressing movement and acquires an “unexpected” meaning in the imaginary creation, only if it is associated with members of a limited class of nouns. That is, with the names of things that can be said or sung. The name bertso is autosemantic because it always retains the same meaning in such reduced phrases. As a result of this article, 50 verbs and 20 subclasses of nouns have been studied in Basque, in order to communicate their figurative expressions.
