Abstract

This article on the poetry of Eusebio Maria Azkue is divided into two parts. The first investigates the features of 19th century Basque identity in Azkue’s poetic discourse and reinterprets one of those features, which has come to be defined as double patriotism, in the light of the Basque melancholic subject. In the second part his metapoetic ideas have been studied, especially those represented by the allegory of the muse Euzka, together with the process of subjectivation generated by that allegory.
