Abstract

Jaioterri Maitia by J. M. Etxeita retells the adventures of a group of shepherds from Ardibaso. The parents of one of the shepherdesses refuse her permission to marry, which leads to the two protagonists meeting up in Mexico. Later on the other members of the original group gradually join them. After overcoming the various obstacles they face, they return to their place of origin, having satisfied their aims. In short, it relates a rite of passage.
