Préstamos latino-románicos sucesivos en vasco

Abstract

This article analyzes three specific cases of Latin and Romance lexicon borrowed into Basque. I deal with a set of words that, while all going back to one of the three common etyma studied, have been successively lent to Basque, from different languages (Castilian or Gascon cognates, for example) or at different historical stages. The article intends to highlight the importance, for the correct etymological interpretation of such loans, of individualizing them and studying them separately and not as a block assigned to a common etymon without considering each word’s particular history.
