Abstract

Uxue Alberdi’s novel Aulki-jokoa (2009) is made up of the discourses of three female narrators who construct reality from their own bodies and voices. The aim of this article is to examine these narratives from a gender perspective, with narrative and embodied voices, gender representations created in the context of war, the links between female characters and the myth of Penelope, the structure of the novel, and symbolic events and spaces. As stated in the conclusions, these narrators represent three different choices and attitudes, all of which can be understood as the result of a process of empowerment.
