Partikula modalen arteko bateragarritasuna euskaraz

Abstract

This study defends that more than one modal particle can appear in the same clause in Basque and it looks into those contexts which restrict the number of modal particles to one. For that purpose I study the following two cases: a) those where the modal particle ote and the question particle -a used in polarity questions in eastern dialects occur in the same clause and b) those which contain the modal particle ahal and ote when the latter behaves syntactically distinct from the usual pattern. As argued, the fact that those particles occupy separate syntactic position allow their compability.
