Abstract

This article examines the origins and quality of the first urban representations in Basque novels in Saizarbitoria’s books Egunero hasten delako (1969) and Ehun metro (1976). These representations, linked to the political-social context of the 60s and 70s, do not correspond to the parameters of hegemonic Western literature in time or characteristics. Alternative ways of looking at these models will be examined in Saizarbitoria's choice to set his first novels in the city.
