Abstract

This paper reflects on the place occupied by popular written verses and ballads in the history of Basque literature. Firstly, it reports on the attempts to classify written verses and ballads by analyzing the criteria used for this purpose; and secondly, it puts forward a proposal to classify written verses and ballads and situate them within the evolution of Basque literature.
