The author begins by describing the situation of Basque theater at the time of Larzabal: a popular theater, amateur, written in Basque and with a fairly free treatment of ideas. In this context she analyses Larzabal's theater style. Far from the moralizing model Larzabal's theater is psychological, where the personality and nature of the characters have their importance. A concern for social matters is also visible, always coming down on the side of those who suffer injustice. He always tries to give prestige to Basque and the Basque speaking community. In his final years, from his relationships with political refugees from the southern Basque Country, he became more political and as a result some of his works are based on historical incidents from Basque history.
