Abstract

Defining the concept of the euskaldun (Basque-speaking) community without adjectives; debating the concept of winning over the erdaldun (non Basque-speaking) community; to this end 3 guidelines are proposed: 1. Linguistic democracy, which means non Basque-speakers should learn Basque; 2. Linguistic refusal as a path; 3. English as an ally – rather than an enemy – to counteract the weight of Spanish and French. The strength and necessity of the personal life spaces for the Basque language are highlighted, as well as a strategy for Basque to win the cities. It explicitly rejects the idea of idyllic country areas as (no way isolated) an oasis of the Basque language, using the Irish experience and the data existing in the Basque Country in this respect.
