Abstract

This article aims to analyse the pronunciation of the Basque language and its registers. In particular, we analyse some informal and formal oral productions of six speakers from Alegia (Gipuzkoa), in order to know if the pronunciation varies depending on the type of register. Furthermore, we examine the relationship of the speakers with the rules for “Careful Pronunciation of Standard Basque”, proposed by the Royal Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia) in 1998.
